30 Unknown Facts About the President of People’s Republic of China – Xi Jinping

Xi Jinping, sometimes referred to as China's "Paramount Leader," rose through the ranks politically in China's coastal provinces. Here are some very interesting facts about Xi Jinping, the General Secretary of Communist Party of China:

  1. Jinping is the 7th President of the People’s Republic of China and also General Secretary of the Communist Party of China.
  2. He was born on June 15, 1953 in Beijing to Xi Zhongxun and Qi Xin. He has four brothers and two sisters.
  3. His father Xi Zhongxun was Vice Premier and Vice Chairman of the National People’s Congress but in 1963 was sent to work in a factory in Luoyang, Henan.
  4. His education was cut short in May 1966, due to Cultural Revolution and was sent to work in Yanchuan County, Shaanxi.
  5. He joined Communist Youth League in 1971 and in 1974 became member of Communist Party of China.
  6. He was appointed Deputy Party Secretary of ‘Zhengding County’ in 1982 and was later promoted as Secretary. He went on to serve in various provinces such as Hebei, Fujian, Zhejiang and Shanghai.
  7. In 1997 he was elected one among 151 alternate members of ‘Central Committee of the Communist Party of China,’ at the 15th party congress.
  8. Jinping was the Governor of Fujian province, when ‘Yuanhua Scandal’ involving Lai Changxing, broke out. He was summoned before ‘Politburo Standing Committee’ for explanation in February 2000.
  9. As ‘Provincial Party Chief’ of ‘Zhejiang’ in 2002, he earned a name for himself with his straightforwardness against corrupt officials and for good governance.
  10. In 2002, he was elected as full member of 16th Central Committee, projecting him into national scene.
  11. In March 2007, Jinping became the Party Chief of Shanghai, one of the four direct-controlled municipality of China and global Financial Centre.
  12. In October 2007, Jinping was introduced into ‘Politburo Standing Committee,’ as a rising political star. He was also entrusted the task of overseeing ‘Central Party School,’ the ideology education wing of Communist Party to train the party cadre.
  13. On March 15, 2008, He became the sixth Vice President under 4th Constitution of the People’s Republic of China.
  14. From September 2012, he cancelled all his meetings and was away from public glare. He may have been injured or was getting ready for political ascendency.
  15. On November 15, 2012, Jinping was elected to the post of General Secretary of the Communist Party and Chairman of the CPC Central Military Commission.
  16. During his trip around China after assuming office, he often hinted about ‘Chinese Dream’ of strong military, better education, stable job, better income, social security and medical care of high standard.
  17. Jinping deviated from his predecessor by dining at regular hotel buffet and traveled by large van with his colleague without restricting traffic.
  18. In November, 2013, he introduced reforms in economic and social policy. The reform brought about gradual reduction of state involvement with participation of private and foreign players.
  19. In December 2013, Jinping was seen at Beijing eatery queuing-up for simple lunch of pork buns, fried liver and vegetables. He paid the bill of 21 yuan himself.
  20. He was honored with the IOC: The Golden Olympic order, the highest award of the Olympic Movement, in November 2013.
  21. On September 27, 2015, Jinping participated in a United Nations meeting to mark 20th anniversary of the Fourth World Conference on Women. His speech was called shameless by Hillary Rodham Clinton, as China detained five young women for staging peaceful performance art demonstrations, ahead of International Women’s Day in March that year.
  22. Jinping did his Chemical Engineering from Tsinghua University, Beijingin 1975, as a Worker-Peasant-Soldier-Student. Apart from being a student, he learnt about Marxism-Leninism-Mao Zedong ideology and worked in the farm.
  23. From January 01, 2016, he abolished one-child-policy and to adopt two-child-policy. He also resolved to abolish the ‘Laogai’ system of re-education through labour.

  25. On April 21, 2016, Jinping was named as ‘Commander in chief’ of the country’s new ‘Joint Operation Command Center of the ‘People’s Liberation Army.’
  26. On January 17, 2017, Jinping became the first Chinese President to attend ‘World Economic Forum’ held in Davos, Switzerland.
  27. On April 20, 2015, he was conferred Pakistan’s top civilian award, the ‘Nishan-e-Pakistan for his contribution in the promotion of the relationship between two countries.
  28. Jinping married PengLiyuan in 1987 after divorcing his first wife, KeLingling. He has a daughter named Xi Mingze.
  29. Under Jinping administration there was clampdown on western influence as mentioned in the ‘Document No.9.’ Internet restriction was also imposed with three years prison term for those who shared more than 500 times a content considered defamatory.
