Antonio Tavaris Brown, the world renowned football wide receiver and punt returner, from the Pittsburgh Steelers of the National Football League (NFL), was born on July 10, 1988 in Miami, Florida. Here are some very interesting things to know about the American player:
He was known as “Boney Tony” during his high school days for his very lean structure.
He left his home as a youth due to conflicts with his step-father and stayed on couches at his friend’s houses wherever he could find one.
He has 4 sons: Antonio Brown Jr., Autonomy Brown, Ali Brown and Apollo Brown. He has a daughter named Antanyiah Brown.
He is the son of the famous Eddie Brown, the greatest Arena Footballer of all time, who played for Albany Firebirds and Louisiana Tech.
He was paired with the professional dancer Sharna Burgess in season 22 of “Dancing with the Stars”. They were eliminated in the semifinals and finished 4th overall.
He became the highest paid wide receiver in NFL when he signed a new 5 year contract with Steelers in 2017 for $ 68 million that includes a sure pay of 19 million on signing and $ 17 million annually.
He was paid $ 244,000 by Facebook to create a live content which was against the NFL rules and regulations. The video includes head coach Mike Tomlin speaking rudely about their opponent “New England Patriots” and also the locker room celebrations.
Brown was fined $ 15,191, for twerking after a touchdown in the game against Washington Redskins. He was also fined for wearing baby blue cleats that violates NFL uniform policy.
He repeated the twerking celebration after touchdown against Kansas City Chiefs in the fourth week of 2016 season for which he received a fine of $ 24309.
He finished his 2016 season with 106 receptions for 1284 yards second only to Larry Fitzgerald of Arizona Cardinals with 107 receptions for 1023 yards. This was his fourth consecutive season with 1000 plus yards received.
He set a new NFL record in 2015 season with a 175 plus yards in four different games in a single season.
By the end of the 2016 season he also broke into the top 100 all-time for career receptions finishing the season with 78th among the all timers list.
During a Wild Card game against Cincinnati Bengals he was hit by Bengals’s Linebacker Vontaze Burfict and left with a concussion. Although Steelers won the game the injury kept him out of the next game.
During the 201 season opener he received significant media attention when he tried to hurdle Cleveland Browns’s punter Spencer Lanning and instead ended up kicking him on the face. Though he later apologized for the incident, he was fined $ 8,200.
He found his name in Offense First Team of 2016 All Pro Team for the third consecutive time. Although the team list is not recognized by the NFL, this does go down in the NFL record and Fact Book.
He threw his first touchdown pass of his career against Huston Texas in 2014 when he threw 3 yards to wide receiver Lance Moore.
During his time at Miami Norland High School he twice qualified for the state in the 100 meter dash. He was also instrumental in their school winning the 4 x 100 meter relay clocking 41.50.
His 2016 season success also earned him the fifth pro bowl selection of his career on December 20 2016, which was also his fourth consecutive selection.
He wasted a scholarship to play at Florida International University as he was soon expelled due to an altercation with security.
Just out of high school his application to Florida State University was rejected due to his poor academics. He was a two sport athlete who excelled in both Football and Track and Fields.
During the 2010 NFL Draft he was picked up in the 6th round by Pittsburg Steelers. He was the 2nd wide receiver for Steelers and 22nd overall in the Draft.
He chose his jersey number 84, which he explained that 32 teams had gone past him, even Steelers, before being selecting in the 6th round. 8 * 4 equals 32 and this number will be an added motivation for him each time he goes out to play.
He made his NFL season debut on September 19, 2010, against Tennessee Titans where he finished an 89 yard punt return touchdown.
Brown played in his first Super Bowl on February 6, 2011, against Green Bay Packers where the Steelers lost 31 – 25.
In the 2011 NFL season he crossed more than 1000 yards in both receiving and returning thus becoming the first player in NFL history to do so.
Against the Washington Redskins in 2012 season he ran the last 20 yards backwards in his punt return touchdown. He was later fined $ 10,000 for his unsportsmanlike behavior.
Brown broke the single season record of 1384 receiving yards on December 22, 2013, set by former Steelers Yancey Thigpen in 1997.
During the 2013 season he created another history by becoming the only NFL player to have 5 receptions and at least 50 yards in every single game of the NFL Season.
By receiving 100 receptions in a season in 2013 he became second Steelers after Hines Ward to do so.
His ex-girlfriend actress Jena Frumes got to know about their breakup via Instagram when Brown posted family photos with his pregnant wife Chelsie Kryiss. Actress Frumes had posted a photo of herself with Brown at an NBA game few weeks ago and though of moving in with him shortly.
