Hillary Clinton is a Women's Rights Activist, U.S. First Lady and a Government Official. She served as first lady from 1993 to 2001, and then as a U.S. senator from 2001 to 2009. She ran for presidency in 2008, but conceded her nomination when it became apparent that Barack Obama held a majority of the delegate vote. Here are 38 more interesting facts about Hillary Clinton.

  1. Hillary Diane Rodham Clinton was born on October 26, 1947, in Chicago, Illinois, and was raised in Park Ridge, Illinois.
  2. Her parents were Republicans.
  3. Hillary’s fifth grade teacher, Mrs. King, was so fond of teaching Hillary, it was said that she followed her to the sixth grade so that she could have her in class for a second year.
  4. When Hillary Clinton was 12 years old, she wrote to NASA to ask how she could become an astronaut. She later received a reply saying they didn’t accept women in the astronaut program.
  5. Hillary would sometimes come to class in the ninth grade wearing her Girl Scout uniform. Perhaps not coincidentally, she would later promote school uniforms.
  6. She was very active in her community. When she was a teenager, she organized a baby-sitting group to look after the children of migrant Mexican workers in rural Illinois.
  7. The class of 1965 at Maine Township High School South voted her "Most Likely To Succeed."
  8. She appeared as a contestant on the television quiz show College Bowl.
  9. Clinton appeared in Life Magazine in 1969 after making headlines as the first student commencement speaker at Wellesley.
  10. During her senior year at Wellesley, Hillary wrote her thesis on Chicago's radical community organizer Saul Alinsky under the direction of Professor Schechter. Her thesis was supposedly suppressed years later while she was at the White House.
  11. She appeared as a contestant on the television quiz show College Bowl.
  12. She studied law at Yale Law School where she was an editor of the Yale Review of Law and Social Action. This is where she met her future husband, Bill Clinton.
  13. Bill and Hillary met the Yale library. She noticed him staring at her and so she went over and said: , “If you keep looking at me, and I’m going to keep looking back, we might as well be introduced. I’m Hillary Rodham.”
  14. Hillary was one of 27 women in a class of 235 at Yale Law.
  15. Shortly before she married Bill Clinton in 1975, Hillary tried to join the Marines. Unfortunately, she was rejected because the recruiter thought she was “too old,” couldn’t see very well, and that she was a woman.
  16. When asked what attracted her to him, she said “He wasn’t afraid of me.”
  17. Hillary and Bill Clinton were faculty members of the University Of Arkansas Law School in Fayetteville until Bill ran for election and became Arkansas’ attorney general in 1976.
  18. Hillary, who is a Methodist, and Bill, who is a Southern Baptist, were married in a Methodist ceremony in their living room on October 11, 1975.
  19. She kept her maiden name after marrying Bill, and only changed it to appease the Arkansas voters.
  20. In 1977, Hillary landed a place at the Rose Law Firm in Little Rock, Arkansas. Founded in 1820, it was one of the oldest and most prestigious law firms west of the Mississippi River.
  21. She was the only woman on the Nixon impeachment legal team.
  22. From 1986 to 1992 Hillary Clinton was enjoying six-year tenure as a director of Wal-Mart, the nation’s largest company.Fellow board members and company executives say Mrs. Clinton used her position to champion personal causes, like the need for more women in management and a comprehensive environmental program.
  23. When Bill Clinton became president, Hillary Clinton pioneered a new role as a very active FLOTUS. In addition to leading an effort about health care reform, she was highly visible in public.
  24. During her time as First Lady, she travelled to more than 80 countries.
  25. Hillary Clinton was the only First Lady to be subpoenaed, for her involvement with the Whitewater controversy in 1996, and to repeatedly be deposed as part of ongoing criminal and civil investigations, including Travelgate and Filegate.
  26. This also means that Bill and Hillary were the only First Couple to be fingerprinted by the FBI.
  27. She is the first former First Lady to be elected to the U.S. Senate and to hold a federal cabinet-level position.
  28. Hillary was the first woman elected to the New York senate. She was also the first woman to be made a full partner of Rose Law Firm.
  29. The couple have one daughter, Chelsea Clinton. Hillary would have preferred a larger family but suffered from a medical condition that impaired her fertility.
  30. They named their daughter,Chelsea Victoria Clinton, after Joni Mitchell's song "Chelsea Morning."
  31. When Jacqueline Kennedy Onassis sent a check to Bill’s presidential campaign in 1992, he immediately said, “We can’t cash this.” Hillary replied, "Make a copy, and then cash it.”
  32. She won a Grammy Because she wasn't impressive enough already, she took home the award for Best Spoken Word Album in 1997 for the audio version of "It Takes a Village."
  33. She called out a reporter for asking sexist questions. When a reporter asked about her taste in clothing designers, Hillary responded, "Would you ever ask a man that question?"
  34. Her favorite designer is Oscar de la Renta.
  35. She loves Tabasco sauce, she puts it on everything, even in her salad.
  36. Hillary Clinton became involved into a scandal about having a lesbian affair with her personal aide Huma Abedin. A new book by Edward Klein, ‘The Truth About Hillary’ is said to make some claims about Hillary Clinton having lesbian relationships.
  37. She’s the most traveled Secretary of State ever. Last year, Clinton surpassed Madeleine Albright’s record of countries visited; Clinton wound up seeing 112 countries in four years. She traveled almost 1 million miles and spent more about 25 percent of her time on the road (and in the air).
  38. She became the first woman to win a presidential primary.
