Why You Should Take Longer Baths

Why baths are better than showers

For most people, bathing plays a strictly functional role. They get in the bathroom, get clean, and get out. Very rarely do we pause to think about which bathing method is better for us. This article sheds some light on why you should take more baths, as opposed to showers.

Baths can help slow down aging

Everyone wants to look younger than they actually are. In fact, very few compliments are better than "you don't look a day over twenty." We have skincare routines and foods to help us delay the aging process. But, the key to slowing down aging may come down to taking baths instead of showers.

Dermatologists believe that baths can help you look younger. This is because taking a bath has been shown to lower the levels of cortisol in the body. If you don't know, cortisol is the stress hormone, and it is actively involved in the aging process. Lower cortisol means a younger, fresher look.

Baths can help your muscles relax

Some people can't wait to get home and hop in the shower. Others look forward to a relaxing dip and soak in a warm bubble bath. But, while the shower is usually only for getting clean, the bath can be truly refreshing.

Soaking in a nice, warm bath can be just what your muscles need after a long and hard day of work. When you're submerged in a bath, your muscles have adequate exposure to the warmth, ensuring that they get proper care. You just can't get that kind of exposure with a shower, no matter how long you spend there.

You can use bath salts

Epsom salts are incredible compounds that are often used for a variety of purposes. The best way to enjoy their benefits is to use them as bath salts. Regular soaks in Epsom-full bath water can help you reduce pain and inflammation in certain parts of your body and promote relaxation. If you thought baths were relaxing, try taking one in a tub full of these bath salts.

You can still use other bath salts and get incredible results. These compounds are readily available, and they are sold under many different brand names. But, if you're going to use a bath salt, you might as well go for the best one you can find.

Baths are just as clean as showers

So far, we've been discussing reasons why you should consider taking baths more often, as opposed to showers. But, one factor that could keep you from taking our advice is the cleanliness factor. After all, the prime reason why we bathe is to get clean. Some people believe that baths are not as clean as showers because the water doesn't drain. However, this couldn't be farther from the truth.

Showers are only cleaner than baths when you have a lot of sweat or dirt on you. In that case, you'll need running water to wash all of that dirt and sweat away. But in any other circumstance, baths are just as clean as showers.
