Tijs Michiel Verwest, a Dutch DJ and record producer, famously known by the stage name Tiësto, is often referred to as “The Greatest DJ of all time.” He was born on January 17, 1969 in Breda, Netherlands. Here are 30 facts to know about the DJ:

  1. Tiësto was named as the "best DJ of the last 20 years" by the readers of DJ Magazine, in the year 2013.
  2. In a poll conducted by MixMag magazine, the fans voted him to be the “Greatest DJ of All Time.”
  3. It was at the age of 12, that his passion for music started and within a period of 2 years, it intensified and he began professionally DJing at school parties.
  4. Tiësto was the first DJ to have performed a solo concert in a stadium. The concert, later dubbed as “Tiësto in Concert,” was held at Arnhem’s GelreDome for 25,000 people.
  5. He was appointed Officer of the Order of Orange-Nassau by Her Majesty Queen Beatrix of the Netherlands on May 20, 2004.
  6. At the Madame Tussauds in Amsterdam, there is a wax sculpture of Tiësto, placed behind a turntable, where visitors can mix his music together.
  7. Tiësto is the first DJ in the history to play live on stage at the 2004 Summer Olympics opening ceremony in Athens. He performed his second studio album “Just Be.” He played for around 90 minutes.
