In July 2018, scientists and archaeologists in Egypt have discovered something very strange and unusual about the city of Alexandria, and up until today it still attracts interest to researchers and mummy experts across the world of what it is.

Scientists have discovered a gigantic 30-ton black granite sarcophagus in Egypt in the same month and year. According to the discoverers, they saw the sarcophagus in a building sire, where it was believed to be the largest stone coffin ever to have existed on this Earth.

When the scientists and archaeologists posted it on social media and on the Internet, many people were amazed and got interested in it, sparking rumors, theories, and speculation of what it is and where it possibly came from. According to many people who have seen photos of the discovery, they think it was a sign that the world is coming to an end, or perhaps, the stone is carrying a 8-foot super mummy inside.

What was inside the stone?

While many people assumed it was some sort of giant creature or a tall human, people were a little disappointed when it was not either of their guesses. The sarcophagus ended up being a coffin for three normal human bodies that looked like they floated in red sewage.

In ancient Egypt history, Egyptian authorities tend to let people drink the red liquid from the dark sarcophagus for them to get the powers that they need to authorize Egyptians.

Theories about the sarcophagus

Now that it was clear that it was no giant mummy, people still did not stop on their speculations. They still believe in some interesting theories about it, and how it was massively done. Although the discovery was not as exciting as finding the tomb of Alexander the Great, people are still voicing out their insights about the discovery.

To some people, such as Zeinab Hashish, the director of the Department of Skeleton Remains Studies at the Egyptian Ministry of Antiquities, and his team further went on to analyze and study the skulls and bones of the said tomb.

According to their observation, the bodies composed of a woman and two men who were stacked up in the tomb. However, what's interesting is that the bodies were stacked at different periods of time. It was believed that the woman was around her early 20s-- 25 years old at most-- and the two other men were in their late 30s or early 40s.

According to the team, there was a hole in one of the skulls that were in the tomb. The one with the hole was the last skeleton stacked. According to Hashish's statement, it might have been a cavity that resulted from trepanation. It was believed that it was the oldest surgical intervention in pre-history that people way back in that time use. However, it was an unusual act in Egypt.

It was also believed that the remains were dated during Egypt's Ptolemaic Period which is between 332 to 30 B.C. During that time was also when Egypt was ruled by a Greek dynasty who were in control of the current empire, which was during 30 B.C to 642 A.D.
